tear gas cleaning

Tear gas is a chemical hazard that requires professional remediation. Law enforcement and others use a variety of these chemical irritant products that require special knowledge to properly remediate.

WHAT IS TEAR GAS
Tear gas is a collection of chemicals that cause skin, respiratory, and eye irritation. It’s usually deployed from canisters, grenades, or pressurized sprays. Despite the name, tear gas isn’t a gas. It’s a pressurized powder that creates a mist when deployed. The most commonly used form of tear gas is 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS gas). Other common types of tear gases include oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray), dibenzoazepine (CR gas), and chloroacetophenone (CN gas).

TEAR GAS REMEDIATION
Tear gas is extremely damaging to homes, the gas can penetrate walls and pass throughout the home via airducts. To properly clean a home, it requires specialized equipment and extensive cleaning to remove the tear gas from a residence. All material-based items such as carpet and furnishing are usually considered damaged beyond restoration. If the tear gas enters the attic area the insulation will need to be removed and the area fully cleaned. All air conditioning will need to be cleaned or based on the severity fully replaced.

COMMON EFFECTS OF TEAR GAS
Eyes: excessive tearing, burning, blurred vision, redness. Nose: runny nose, burning, swelling. Mouth: burning, irritation, difficulty swallowing, drooling. Lungs: chest tightness, coughing, choking sensation, noisy breathing (wheezing), shortness of breath.
